Talkmobile SIM Only Plans

Talkmobile is a budget-friendly mobile network that offers a range of low-cost plans. They use the Vodafone network, which has good coverage in the UK.

Talkmobile is ideal for anybody looking for a low-cost SIM-only plan with limited data. Their 30-day rolling plans are ideal if you don’t want to commit to a long-term contract or pass a credit check.

Talkmobile offers a very simple service, which is sort of the idea. All the fundamentals are addressed – you’ll receive some basic minutes, messages, and data, backed up by a reliable 4G and 5G  network with great coverage.

What network is Talkmobile on?

TalkMobile uses Vodafone’s 3G, and 4G and 5G networks.  Vodafone has good national coverage – second only to EE. What’s more, TalkMobile is owned by Vodafone, which is good news. While it doesn’t mean you receive the exact same service as Vodafone users, less middle men usually means a more reliable service and better prices.

How long do TalkMobile plans last?

TalkMobile SIM Only Plans are all available on a simple 30 day rolling plan. This sort of contract is a good alternative to Pay-As-You-Go because it gives access to more favourable rates, without sacrificing flexibility.

Why don't I see any unlimited data plans?

Talkmobile is all about delivering great value, and Unlimited data plans don’t really fit in with their great pricing. Don’t worry though, most people don’t need unlimited data, and the data allowances are well thought out – even generous for the price.

Can I use wi-fi calling?

Wi-fi calling is a godsend for a lot of people. If you are in a large office building or apartment block. At WhatSIM we are big fans of this feature. The good news is that if your phone supports it, Wi-fi calling should work with TalkMobile. Make sure you keep your phone OS software updated and check the settings to make sure it is activated on your phone.

How does TalkMobile compare to giffgaff?

If you are considering a Talkmobile SIM you have probably been looking at similar providers. The most popular alternative to TalkMobile is probably giffgaff, a Pay As You Go mobile network with easy to use data bundles or ‘Goody Bags’. How do they compare?

  • Coverage: Giffgaff uses the O2 network for coverage, while Talkmobile uses the Vodafone network. Both networks have good coverage in the UK, but O2 tends to have slightly better coverage overall. All networks should provide a coverage checker to help you understand the signal strength in your area.
  • Contract Type: Giffgaff offers a Pay-As-You-Go SIM with monthly bundles of data if you need them. TalkMobile is technically a ‘Pay Monthly’ contract with a short 1-month minimum term, so you can stop using it quickly if you no longer need it.
Giffgaff is stronger in terms of flexibility, while Talkmobile wins on ease of use and value for money.
  • Customer Service: Giffgaff only offers online customer service, with a helpful online community and quick response times to support requests. It has a good reputation, largely driven by the giffgaff community, but account related enquiries can take longer to be resolved.
Talkmobile’s phone based customer service reputation is more mixed, with some users reporting good experiences and others reporting less satisfactory experiences.
  • Network Performance: Giffgaff and Talkmobile use the O2 and Vodafone networks respectively, which are both generally reliable. However, some users may experience slower data speeds or other performance issues when using either network in some areas.

Is Talk Mobile anything to do with TalkTalk?

No, they are not related – they just have similar names. However, TalkTalk Mobile no longer operates, so TalkMobile is a good alternative. They offer a similar service with a focus on simplicity and value and arguably better customer service.
